Why the need for crowdfunding support?
As a restaurant, the Rainbow has been in lockdown since midnight on 26 March 2020. Like in many jurisdictions, the easing of lock down restrictions remain very fluid. At the time this campaign is launched, there is no certainty on when The Rainbow can open its doors again. All one can do is look at how things are on the ground and try and interpret the signals government is putting out. All of this leads us to believe that it is going to be many months before The Rainbow is permitted to trade and even when we are, this trade will come with severe restrictions.
It was the first such establishment of its kind in KwaZulu Natal, located in a so called “White” area under the infamous Group Areas Act, to be granted a license to sell food and sorghum beer to Africans; this, after having had to seek permission from all businesses within a 200-meter radius of the proposed site in Stanfield Lane, Pinetown.
